THe Problem
Many group homes do not have an advanced digital tracking and alerting method for medication administration and goal tracking. Due to this lack, medication errors occur, individuals are at a health risk, and group homes risk audits.
THe Solution
Aiding and assisting group home staff by digitizing all medication administration and goal tracking.
Eliminating medication administration errors, assisting designated coordinators in goal tracking, and in doing so saving the time of the employees which they can better spend on the people they support.
Competitive analysis
When researching existing eMAR applications, it was observed that they are not streamlined or simple. Many have complex interfaces which end up asking more time of the employee.
Initial Sketches
When sketching out the initial concepts, though and attention was placed to thinking of ways to streamline and efficiently alert staff for medication passes, accurately track medication administration, and accompany it with daily goal recording.
Aside from the overall design aesthetic, attention was paid to the flow and feel of the experience within the application. The 10 Usability Heuristics for User Interface Design were cross referenced and taken into account when designing and this application.
Individuals who enter the caregiving role simply do not have the time or mental capacity to sit down and try and fumble with an application that does a disservice to both them and the individuals they support. By offering a streamlined process to help with the flow of medication administration, more time and energy can be better placed into the individuals they support.
“Virtuline” tracks all medication records, which helps the overall organization of the home and designated coordinators as well. Eliminating the need for paper recording.
Improvements based on user feedback
Redefining the day screen vs. the night screen.
Medication times vary and it is important specific medications are passed out at specific times so certain medications do not overlap, conflict, or cross with any other medications. Creating an obvious and noticeable shift between day vs. night.
Smoother flow from alert to delivery of medications.
Ensuring the flow from the medication administration alert to the administration administrative process screen is a logical flow and makes sense for the user.
